Course content
The purpose of the discipline is to form students' linguistic and cultural competence to ensure effective intercultural communication through adequate perception of the interlocutor and understanding of original English texts. The course involves learning English through obtaining certain knowledge of English-speaking countries, especially the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland and the United States of America; mastering cultural knowledge; forming the ability to understand the mentality of the native English speaker. At the end of the course, the students should know basic information on English-speaking countries and language realia that reflect the peculiarities of historical development, socio-political, economic and cultural life of these countries.

Assessment methods and criteria
The final evaluation takes the form of a credit. The grade is formed as the sum of all points scored during the semester for each type of activities: test paper (max 25/min 15 балів), oral questioning (max 25/min 15 балів), written assignments (max 25/min 15 балів), final module test (max 25/min 15 балів). Students who scored a total of less than 60 points have to work for the classes and topics they missed by writing individual tasks. Evaluation is based on a 100-point scale: 0-59 - failed; 60-100 - passed.
