Prerequisites and co-requisites
Successful mastering of the disciplines "Japanese Language (Basic Level)", as well as knowledge of the theoretical fundamentals of linguistics from the courses "Fundamentals of Linguistics (Synchrony)", "Fundamentals of Linguistics (Diachrony)"; basic knowledge about the main aspects of the history, geography, political system, social life and traditions of Japan; principles of using the country-specific material to be able to translate from Japanese which are taught within the course "Japanese Culture-Oriented Linguistics"; basic theoretical knowledge about structure of the language, its characteristic features, parts of speech and ways to connect them in a sentence, etc., which are taught within the general philological disciplines as well as basic Japanese writing skills, which are ensured by the course "Basic Learning of Chinese Characters in Japanese".
Course content
The course forms the necessary set of theoretical knowledge for the students of the Bachelor's degree and lays the foundations for further training of highly qualified specialists, who can translate at a professional level. The lecture part of the course is devoted to explaining the fundamental issues of general translation theory and the seminars - to a comprehensive review and discussion of practical problems related to a specific pair of languages involved in the translation process: Japanese and Ukrainian. During classes, students have the opportunity to learn the basic principles of translation from Japanese (search for a grammatical basis before starting translation, work with adjective phrases, phraseological units and linguoculturological vocabulary). Self-study of students includes analytical work with texts and understanding of practical translation problems.
