PLO 9. To characterize dialectal and social varieties of classical and foreign languages, to describe the sociolinguistic situation. PLO 12. To analyze units of language, to determine their interaction, to characterize language phenomena and processes that cause them. PLO 13. To analyze and to interpret ancient literature works, to determine their specificity and the position in the literary process. PLO 15. To carry out linguistic, literary and special philological analysis of ancient Greek and Latin languages texts of various styles and genres. PLO 21. To have the skills of translating ancient Greek and Latin texts of various styles and genres.

Successful completion of the courses "Ancient Greek Language: Morphology and Word Formation," "Ancient Greek Language: Simple Sentence Syntax," "Ancient Greek Language: Complex Sentence Syntax," "Introduction to General Linguistics," "History of Ancient Greek Literature," "Culture of Ancient Greece and Rome (in Ancient Greek and Latin Texts)," "Ancient Greek Historical Prose (based on original texts)."

The aim of the discipline is to master the fundamental method of understanding and interpreting texts based on a comprehensive approach to Ancient Greek philosophical sources in linguistic, literary, translational, cultural, and philosophical aspects. The first part of the course introduces the history of the emergence of hermeneutics as a scientific discipline and its basic concepts and procedures: text and context, understanding and pre-understanding, conflict of interpretations, hermeneutic circle, and provides an idea of the typological differentiation of texts based on linguistic markers of the Ancient Greek language. The second part is focused on the practical disclosure of pragmatic and genre-stylistic characteristics of philosophical discourse using the works of Heraclitus, Empedocles, Parmenides, and Plato.

Lectures, practical classes; video materials and presentations (Microsoft PowerPoint); independent work (preparing materials on the assigned topic, doing exercises, and translation of Ancient Greek texts).

The semester score is formed by the points obtained during the entire course. The overall grade for the semester consists of points obtained for classroom and independent work. The final number of points for the discipline is determined as the sum of points for systematic work throughout the semester, taking into account the final assessment (exam). Admission to the exam requires successful completion of tasks and work throughout the semester.
