Learning outcomes
PLO 8. To know and to understand the system of ancient Greek, Latin and foreign languages, the general properties of literature as an art of words, the history of ancient Greek and Latin languages and literature, to be able to apply the knowledge in professional activities. PLO 11. To know the principles, technologies and methods of creating spoken and written texts of various genres and styles in national, classical and foreign languages. PLO 13. To analyze and to interpret ancient literature works, to determine their specificity and the position in the literary process. PLO 15. To carry out linguistic, literary and special philological analysis of ancient Greek and Latin languages texts of various styles and genres. PLO 22. To understand the role and the place of classical languages and literatures in the context of the European linguistic and cultural space, in the development strategies of the latest scientific paradigm and modern civilization.

Prerequisites and co-requisites
Knowledge of general information about the historical and cultural context of antiquity, basics of literary terminology, basic volume of ancient Greek and Roman mythology, basics of Latin language.
Course content
The purpose of the discipline is to train specialists in philology who would have a thorough knowledge of the theoretical foundations and practical skills of evaluation, analysis and interpretation of works of ancient Roman literature using original texts. Summary of the subject. The discipline examines the laws of the literary process of Ancient Rome, the genesis and evolution of genres, genres and styles of ancient Roman literature, the problems and artistic world of the Roman classical epic, the influence of the Roman literary tradition on the development of world literature.

Planned learning activities and teaching methods
Lectures, practical classes; video materials and presentations (Microsoft PowerPoint); independent work (preparation of materials on a given topic, analysis of texts).
Assessment methods and criteria
The total grade for the semester consists of the points obtained for classroom and independent work. The final assessment is conducted in the form of an exam: the maximum number of points in the exam is 40 points, the minimum number of points that are added to the semester points is 24 points; the following learning outcomes are assessed in the exam: PLO 1.1-1.5; PLO 2.1-2.4; PLO 3.1; PLO 4.1-4.5; the exam is conducted in the form of a written paper consisting of two theoretical questions and one practical question. The final number of points in the discipline is determined as the sum of points for systematic work during the semester, taking into account the final assessment (exam).
