Learning outcomes
PLO 13. Analyze and interpret works of the Ancient literature, determine their peculiarities and place in the literary process.
PLO 15. Perform linguistic, literary and specific philological analysis of texts of different styles and genres in Ancient Greek and Latin.
PLO 22. Realize the role and place of classical languages and literatures in the context of the European linguistic and cultural space, in the strategies of the development of the contemporary academic paradigm and modern civilization.

Prerequisites and co-requisites
1) successful mastering of the academic disciplines "Introduction to Literary Studies", "Introduction to Classical Philology" and "History of Ancient Greek Literature";
2) knowledge of general information about the historical and cultural context of antiquity and the Middle Ages, the basics of literary terminology, world history;
3) possession of elementary skills of analysis and interpretation of linguistic, literary and artistic works taking into account the peculiarities of the time and era, to know the basic information from world history and cultural studies about antiquity and the Middle Ages, early modern times.
Course content
The purpose of the discipline is to give a brief overview of the history and culture (primarily literature) of Byzantium, taking into account ideology, philosophy, public opinion, the struggle of literary currents and groups, the development of art, the historical, cultural and literary connections of Byzantium and Kievan Rus.
Abstract of the academic discipline. The discipline "Byzantine literature" belongs to the list of disciplines of free choice of the student of the block of disciplines "Classical philology in the context of European civilization". Its subject is the study of the regularities of the historical and literary process of Byzantium as a state that arose in the IV century. during the collapse of the Roman Empire in its eastern part and existed until the middle of the 15th century, in the history of world civilization and culture and literature. The discipline gives an idea of the problems, historical background and artistic style of works of Byzantine literature; forms skills of historical and literary analysis and significance for understanding the early history and culture of Ukraine.

Assessment methods and criteria
Knowledge control is carried out according to the ECTS system, which provides for a two-level assessment of the learned material, in particular, the assessment of theoretical training - learning outcomes (knowledge 1.1 - 1.5), which makes up 50% of the total assessment, and the assessment of practical training - learning outcomes (skills 2.1-2.4 ); (communication 3.1-3.3); (autonomy and responsibility 4.1-4.5), which is 50% of the total grade.
All types of work for the semester have as a result:
● in the maximum dimension of 100 points,
● a minimum of 60 points.
Final assessment: a credit.
