Learning outcomes
PLO 8. Know and understand the system of the Ancient Greek, Latin and a foreign language, the general properties of literature as the art of word, the history of the Ancient Greek and Latin languages, and literature, be able to apply this knowledge in professional activities. PLO 9. Characterize dialect and social varieties of classical and a foreign language, describe the sociolinguistic situation. PLO 15. Perform linguistic, literary and specific philological analysis of texts of different styles and genres in Ancient Greek and Latin. PLO 21. Possess the skills to translate texts of different styles and genres in Ancient Greek and Latin. PLO 22. Realize the role and place of classical languages and literatures in the context of the European linguistic and cultural space, in the strategies of the development of the contemporary academic paradigm and modern civilization.

Prerequisites and co-requisites
1) successful mastering of the academic disciplines "History of the Latin Language", "Introduction to Classical Philology" and "Latin Language", "Introduction to Linguistics". 2) knowledge of historical changes in the process of the development of the Latin language, systematization and cataloging of linguistic theories in their historical perspective, the basics of linguistic terminology, knowledge of the basic volume of the Latin language, the basics of the historical grammar of the Latin language; 3) mastering the basics of general linguistic analysis, basic abilities and skills in tracking the evolution of linguistic phenomena in the Latin language system.
Course content
The purpose of the discipline is to gain knowledge about the structure of Vernacular Latin and the influence of the Latin language on the development of modern European languages, as well as the ability to analyze phenomena peculiar of spoken Latin and their projection to modern Romance languages; to acquaint students with both popular Latin and early Romance texts. Abstract of the academic discipline. Within the scope of the discipline, varieties of Romance languages, the principles of their classification, the nature of Romanization in the Roman Empire and beyond are considered, Vernacular Latin, its phonetic, grammatical, lexical features, the influence of the language system of folk Latin on the formation of Romance language systems and the English language are analyzed.

Assessment methods and criteria
Final assessment: exam. The semester number of points is formed by the points received by the student in the process of learning the material from the entire educational course. The overall grade for the semester consists of points received for classroom work (oral answers, additions and participation in discussions at lectures and seminars, control work with open answers), independent, creative works.
