Learning outcomes
PLO 11. Know the principles, technologies and techniques of oral and written texts of different genres and styles creation in Ukrainian, classical and a foreign language. PLO 15. Perform linguistic, literary and specific philological analysis of texts of different styles and genres in Ancient Greek and Latin. PLO 22. Realize the role and place of classical languages and literatures in the context of the European linguistic and cultural space, in the strategies of the development of the contemporary academic paradigm and modern civilization.

Prerequisites and co-requisites
1) successful mastery of the mandatory disciplines "History of Ancient Greek Literature", "History of Roman Literature", "History of Ancient Rhetoric" and normative courses in classical languages; 2) knowledge of the phonetics of the ancient Greek and Latin languages; 3) possession of basic skills and abilities of literary analysis and analysis of language units.
Course content
The goal of the course is to form students' knowledge of the ancient versification system, skills and abilities to read poems and stanzas of various metrical structures. Within the scope of the discipline, the basic rules of ancient quantitative poetry are considered. The main concepts of ancient metrics entered the theory of European literary studies and are actively used to this day. That is why the subject of study of this discipline is the rules of ancient Greek and Latin prosody, phonetic phenomena in a verse line, the structure of an ancient poem, verse measures and stanzas. Analyzing the metrical structure of various samples of ancient poetry, students learn an integral element of ancient Greek and Roman culture: the ability to compose, analyze and recite quantitative poetry, and also learn to find metrical counterparts in European poetry of different periods.

Assessment methods and criteria
The overall grade consists of points received for classroom work and for independent work. The final assessment is conducted in the form of an exam: 1. the maximum number of points on the exam is 40 points, the minimum number of points, which are added to semester grades, is 24 points (60% of the maximum number of points assigned to the exam); 2. the following learning outcomes are assessed at the exam: 1.2; 1.3; 1.4; 2.1; 2.2; 2.3; 2.4; 3.1; 4.1. 3. the exam is conducted in the form of a written work with open answers, which is evaluated with a maximum of 10 points, and two practical tasks, which are evaluated with a maximum of 15 points each. The practical task involves a metrical analysis and translation of fragments of a poetic text into classical languages.
