PLO 2. To work effectively with information: to select the necessary information from various sources, in particular from professional literature and electronic databases, to analyze critically, to interpret, to arrange, to classify and to systematize it.
PLO 15. To carry out linguistic, literary and special philological analysis of ancient Greek and Latin languages texts of various styles and genres.
PLO 16. To know and to understand the basic concepts and categories of Сlassical Philology and the theoretical principles of General Linguistics, to be able to apply them in professional activities.

Prerequisites and co-requisites
To gain general knowledge about the historical and cultural contexta of Antiquity, basic knowledge about Ancient Mythology; basic knowledge of the grammar of the Latin and Ancient Greek languages, initial skills of the analysis and interpretation of literary works.
Course content
The purpose of the course "Sports and Holidays in Antiquity" is to acquaint students with the ancient traditions of public festivals, the cultural phenomenon of all-Greek and Roman holidays, to outline the influence of divine cults and rituals, ancient athleticism, classical kalokagatia on the history of the formation of events of a solemn nature of the ancient Hellenes and Romans.
Abstract. The course is dedicated to the history of the development of the cultural phenomenon of the holiday, its connections with the sphere of the sacred and the further imitation of the traditions of public celebrations of the Hellenes and Romans by European civilization, the concept of "agon" as a universal cultural phenomenon of the Hellenic holiday, the winner of which was the embodiment of the ethical and aesthetic ideal of a citizen and an athlete; transformation processes of Panhellenic public games and festivals in the Roman cultural tradition. The practical part of the course involves getting to know the texts of ancient Greek and Roman authors (Homer, Pindar, Pausanias, Ovid, Virgil, Svetonius).

Lectures, practical classes; video materials and presentations (Microsoft PowerPoint), independent work (preparation of materials on a given topic, report, presentations, control works, creative project)
Assessment methods and criteria
The semester number of points is formed by the points obtained by the student in the process of learning the material from the entire educational course. The overall grade for the semester consists of points received for classroom and independent work.
The final assessment is conducted in the form of a credit. The credit is given based on the results of the student's work throughout the entire semester and does not include additional assessment measures. Students submit and defend a creative project no later than the last week of lectures. Students who scored the minimum positive number of points - 60, receive "enrolled". Students who did not score the minimum positive number of points - 60, receive "failed".
