PLO 1. Communicate freely on professional issues with experts and non- experts in Ukrainian and a foreign language, in oral and in written form, use these languages to organize effective cross-cultural communication. PLO 10. Know the rules of standard language and be able to apply them in practice. PLO 11. Know the principles, technologies and techniques of oral and written texts of different genres and styles creation in Ukrainian, classical and a foreign language PLO 12. Analyze language units, determine their interaction, and characterize linguistic phenomena and the underlying processes. PLO 20. Know Greek and Latin substratum of the modern academic terminology, possess the knowledge of the metalanguage of the academic description and use it in the situations of professional communication.

To know the most important facts, events and processes in the history of mankind. To be able to determine the characteristic features that are characteristic of the social order, state system and economic complex of Ancient civilization. To possess elementary skills of source criticism, historical analysis, establishment of cause and effect relationships.

The goal of the discipline is to form students a systematic understanding of the formation, flourishing and decline of Ancient Greco-Roman civilization and its characteristic features; to determine the place and role of Antiquity from the point of view of various concepts of human history. To disclose the state of the source base, analysis of the main groups of sources from the history of Greco-Roman civilization; to determine chronological limits and features of the periodization of Antiquity. To analyse of the essence and specifics of the political, economic, social, religious and cultural development of Antiquity; to elucidate of mental and cultural characteristics and worldview orientations of the inhabitants of Ancient Greece and Rome, to identify main events and processes in the history of Antiquity; to get acquainted with the biographies of the most prominent personalities of this civilization.

Lectures; individual work

The total number of points is formed by semester points obtained from all topics (points obtained for thematic test papers, for performance of individual tasks), and for the final test paper. The content of course is divided into 2 content parts, each of which includes lectures, independent work of students; are completed by rating control of level of assimilation of knowledge of program material of corresponding part of the course. The condition for admission to the final test is to obtain at least 20 points during the semester evaluation. At the same time, it is mandatory to successfully complete thematic tests and perform individual assignments provided for in the work program of the academic discipline. The recommended minimum for admission to the final test is 36 points. A detailed description of the forms, criteria and organization of assessment is given in the working course program, published on the official website of the Educational and Scientific Institute of Philology.
