PLO 8. Know and understand the system of the Ancient Greek, Latin and a foreign language, the general properties of literature as the art of word, the history of the Ancient Greek and Latin languages, and literature, be able to apply this knowledge in professional activities. PLO 12. Analyze language units, determine their interaction, and characterize linguistic phenomena and the underlying processes. PLO 15. Perform linguistic, literary and specific philological analysis of texts of different styles and genres in Ancient Greek and Latin. PLO 20. Know Greek and Latin substratum of the modern academic terminology, possess the knowledge of the metalanguage of the academic description and use it in the situations of professional communication. PLO 21. Possess the skills to translate texts of different styles and genres in Ancient Greek and Latin.

Full-time form

Elementary skills of analyzing grammatical material, knowledge of grammatical categories.

The goal is to acquire complex, conceptual knowledge about the grammatical structure and lexical composition of the Latin language. The course involves multi-faceted language teaching aimed at developing students' skills of speaking, writing and translation as well as hermeneutic abilities. Abstract of the academic discipline. The subject of study of the academic discipline in the first semester is the normative grammar and vocabulary of the Latin language of the classical period of its development, during which the most outstanding literary monuments were created and the canons of the normative language were laid down, on which subsequent generations of Latin authors were oriented.

Lectures, practical classes; video materials and presentations (Microsoft PowerPoint); independent work (preparation of materials on a given topic, exercises and translation of texts)

The semester number of points is formed by points obtained by student in process of studying over the entire educational course. The overall grade for semester consists of points received for classroom and independent work. The final assessment is conducted in form of exam. The maximum number of points on exam is 40 , the minimum number of points is 24; the following learning outcomes are evaluated on exam: 1.1-1.2; 2.1-2.2; 3.1; exam is conducted in form of a written work, which consists of two theoretical questions and a practical one. The final number of points for discipline is defined as the sum of points for systematic work during semester, taking into account the an exam. Admission to exam requires the student to successfully complete assignments and work throughout semester.
