PLO 5. To cooperate with colleagues, representatives of other cultures and religions, proponents of different political views, etc. PLO 6. Use information and communicative technologies to solve complicated specialized tasks and professional issues. PLO 8. To know the systemic characteristics of the Ukrainian and English languages, structural and systemic organization of the written and oral texts as a verbal communication mechanism; to know the general properties of literature as an art of word and be able to use this knowledge in professional activity. PLO 14. To use Ukrainian, English, French / Spanish in oral and written forms, in different registers of communication (formal, informal, neutral), for solving communicative tasks in educational, professional, scientific spheres, and everyday life. PLO 15.

Full-time form

Acquisition of Practical courses in English and General Linguistics course. Ability to discuss linguistic issues in English. The course is purposed at acquiring profound knowledge of lingua-cultural realia which reflect peculiarities of the historical development of Great Britain and the USA, social and political structure of British and American societies, geography and demographics, culture, mode of life, customs and traditions of these countries. Special attention is focused on learning linguistic units which are regarded as an integral part of the “cultural background” of a typical Brit/American and the knowledge of which are necessary for both communications with native speakers and proper understanding of authentic literature (fiction, popular science literature, mass media, and reference sources).

The course is aimed at introducing students to the fundamentals of theoretical grammar in order to enrich and systematize their knowledge of English. The course consists of four parts: the first part defines theoretical grammar as a branch of linguistics; the second and the third parts explore morphological and syntactic peculiarities of English; the fourth part highlights the pragmatic approach to analyzing grammatical phenomena. The course equips students with the knowledge necessary to conduct individual research. And aimed at shaping students’ lingua-cultural competence for effective cross-cultural communication, along with developing students’ awareness of the worldview values of native speakers.

The course is delivered with the help of such activities as oral presentations and written module tests. The teaching methods are lectures, seminars, research projects, and individual assignments.

The final assessment is an exam. Student’s performance during the term is the sum of the points accumulated for their work in class and individual assignments. The minimum score for the term is 36 points, while the maximum score equals 60. The minimum score for the exam is 24 and the maximum score is 40.
