Learning outcomes
PLO 1. To communicate fluently in official and foreign languages (English, French / Spanish) on professional issues with specialists and non-specialists both orally and in the written form; to use the languages effectively for cross-cultural communication. PLO 6. Use information and communicative technologies to solve complicated specialized tasks and professional issues. PLO 11. To know the principles, technologies, and methods for creating oral and written texts of different genres and styles in official and foreign (English) languages and be able to use them in professional activity. Prerequisites and co-requisites
A student has to master a Practical course in English and Linguistics, to have a good command of English (B2), know the main linguistic notions, be able to use lexicographic resources of English and Ukrainian, to plan and evaluate his/her own work, to use interactive and multimedia means, to have elementary skills of critical perception of phenomena analyzed, usage of professional information sources in foreign languages, production of oral and written messages in English, interaction and cooperation while studying within the situations of search and creation.
Course content
The course belongs to the basic components of the integrated system of translation education of students which includes learning theoretical foundations of various translation schools, the world history of translation, the history of the Ukrainian translation, general and specific theories of translation, approaches, and solutions of translation problems. During practical classes, students develop their skills in translating (preparation for translation, working with a source language text, working with information resources, translation, translation analysis of a source language text and a target language text, editing of a text translated into the target language). The course aims at training students for practical translation activity, at creating a theoretical basis necessary for further acquisition of skills of translation, and at preparing them for further courses in specific and special theories of translation within the Educational Program «Applied (computer) Linguistics and English».

Planned learning activities and teaching methods
The course is delivered with the help of such activities as oral reports and written tests. The teaching methods are lectures, practical classes (seminars), creative and research projects, and students’ individual work.
Assessment methods and criteria
The course ends with a credit. Student’s performance during the term is the sum of the grades accumulated for their work in the classroom (oral reports, creative activities) and individual work. The grade for the credit consists of the grades a student gets during the term and the grades for the final test. The students who get the minimum positive score of 60 grades get their “pass” for the course. Those who do not get the minimum positive score of 60 grades, get a “failed”. Those students who during the term do not get the minimum positive score of 60 grades have to submit their individual papers or if necessary write a test on the material they missed or haven’t submitted the corresponding papers in time.
