PLO 1. To communicate fluently in official and foreign languages (English, French / Spanish) on professional issues with specialists and non-specialists both orally and in the written form; to use the languages effectively for cross-cultural communication. PLO 8. To know the systemic characteristics of the Ukrainian and English languages, structural and systemic organization of the written and oral texts as a verbal communication mechanism; to know the general properties of literature as an art of word and be able to use this knowledge in professional activity. PLO: 10, 11, 14.

Full-time form

To successfully master the course, the student must know the basic orthographic, grammatical, lexical, and stylistic norms of the literary English language; have the skills of reading, writing, listening, and speaking at the level provided by the program of the 1st year of study (B1-B2).

The study discipline "English Language" aims to develop students' linguistic competence to use the English language in a wide range of real situations at interpersonal, professional, and educational levels. The course involves the systematic acquisition by students of basic speech skills (reading, writing, active communication, and listening) and the mastering of a large number of intercultural topics, lexical items, phrasal verbs, regular expressions, idioms, basic everyday conversational topics, which will enable them to navigate freely in the modern English-speaking world. The course involves the development of reading, listening, speaking, and writing skills to the intended level (B2+ according to the scale of the Council of Europe).

Over the course of 2 semesters, evaluation is carried out in accordance with the types of works and forms of feedback described in the previous paragraph. Since the multi-semester discipline was taught in the first and second semesters, the total score for the semester is formed in two parts as the sum of the points of both parts in percentage equivalent: part 1 – 30% of the received points (out of 100 points – 30 points); part 2 - 50% of the obtained points (from 60 points - 30 points, from 36 points - 18 points). The final number of points for the discipline (maximum 100 points) is defined as the sum of points for systematic work during two semesters, taking into account the final assessment (exam). Therefore, the final grade for the discipline (minimum 60, maximum 100 points) consists of the sum of the number of points for the semester work (minimum 36, maximum 60 points) and the final assessment - the exam (minimum 24, maximum 40 points).
