Learning outcomes
PLO 1. To communicate fluently in official and foreign languages (English, French / Spanish) on professional issues with specialists and non-specialists both in oral and written form; to use the languages effectively for cross-cultural communication. PLO 7. To understand major problems of philology and approaches to their solution with the use of relevant methods, in particular, innovative interdisciplinary approaches of applied (computational) linguistics and information technologies; to explain their interrelation in the integrated system of interdisciplinary knowledge. PLO 8. To know the systemic characteristics of the Ukrainian and English languages, structural and systemic organization of the written and oral texts as a verbal communication mechanism; to know the general properties of literature as an art of word and be able to use this knowledge in professional activity. PLO 10, 15.

Prerequisites and co-requisites
To know: • the general structure of the modern Ukrainian language; • units and phonetic, lexical, morphological, and syntactic levels of the Ukrainian language; functions of units of structural levels of the Ukrainian language (from the school educational course); • basic information (from a school educational course) about human anatomy and physiology, as well as having elementary ideas about the physical nature of sound. To be able • express one's own opinions and judgments based on knowledge from the "Introduction to Linguistics" course; • make a phonetic analysis of units of the Ukrainian language.
Course content
The purpose of the discipline is to acquaint students with the theoretical and practical aspects of studying the phonetic structure of the modern Ukrainian literary language, with its segmental and suprasegmental subsystems, and orthoepic norms; development of abilities and skills to transcribe texts, recognize changes in sounds in the speech flow and find out the phonetic reasons for these changes; assimilation in full of the orthoepic norms of the Ukrainian literary language.

Planned learning activities and teaching methods
Methods: lecture, practical session, laboratory session, independent work. Activities: oral answer, written answer, listening to recordings of literary speech, final control task (test).
Assessment methods and criteria
The form of final control is an exam. According to the types of work, a student can score the following number of points: practical/laboratory lesson: – from 0 to 2 points (5x11 = 55 points); written work - from 0 to 2 points; final test - from 0 to 10 points; The final score is formed as the sum of all points scored during the semester (36-60) and exam points (24-40).
