Prerequisites and co-requisites
The program is aimed at students with C1 English and basic knowledge of the foundations of civilization, world literature, translation studies, and comparative linguistics. The student should be able to analyze texts and phenomena in translation criticism, compare Ukrainian and Anglo-American traditions, apply literary concepts, plan work, use multimedia, work with information and translations, compose oral and written reports, and collaborate with other students. In addition, analytical thinking, critical evaluation, scientific research, and written mediation skills in English and Ukrainian at the C1 level are required.
Course content
12. Зміст навчальної програми Дисципліна передбачає оволодіння системними знаннями з критики художнього перекладу в екстраполяції на ключові досягнення та дискусійні пункти сучасної теорії та практики перекладу. Її предметом є вивчення єдності й різноманіття підходів до аналізу та оцінки якості перекладу, з акцентом на формуванні української та англоамериканської традицій літературної критики художнього перекладу. Дисципліна визначає місце, роль і функції критики перекладу як окремої галузі перекладознавства, дає уявлення про методи, школи і стилі українського художнього перекладу як об’єкта критики перекладу та формує навички фахового аналізу художнього перекладу в лінгвістичному, літературознавчому, соціальному, історичному та інших наукових і гуманітарних контекстах. Навчання проводиться у вигляді практичних занять та самостійної роботи студентів. Завершується дисципліна заліком наприкінці семестру. The discipline aims to provide systematic knowledge of literary translation criticism in extrapolating contemporary translation theory and practice's key achievements and controversial points. Its subject is the study of the unity and diversity of approaches for analyzing and evaluating the quality of translation, emphasizing the formation of Ukrainian and Anglo-American traditions of literary criticism of literary translation. The discipline defines the place, role, and functions of translation criticism as a separate branch of translation studies, providing insight into the methods, schools, and styles of Ukrainian literary translation as an object of translation criticism and develops skills in the professional analysis of literary translation in linguistic, literary, social, historical and other scientific and humanitarian contexts. The study comprises practical classes and individual training. At the end of the term, the students take a pass-fail test.

Planned learning activities and teaching methods
Types of learning activities during the term: • spoken answers during the practical classes, participation in the discussion; • blitz surveys; • tests; • presentation defense; • individual task; • final control test.
Assessment methods and criteria
Term evaluation: • maximum number of points during the term – 100 points; • answers, additions, participation in discussions at lectures and seminars, blitz surveys, routine test assignments, colloquium LO 1.1-1.5, 2.1-2.4 - maximum 52 points (+ final test 20 points). • writing and presenting a scientific abstract (abstracts) / oral and written assignments: ELO 2.5, 3.1- 3.3, 4.1-4.4 - 28 points (10 points for preparation of the abstract, 5 points for presentation of the abstract, oral and written tasks, 2 points for a mini-presentation. The final control test comprises three written tasks: 1) theoretical item, 2) translation, 3) commented translation. Terms of pass/fail test eligibility: Students who have obtained points below the critical evaluation minimum, i.e., 60 points, are not admitted to the pass/fail test.
