Prerequisites and co-requisites
To possess English language skills at a professional level, as well as knowledge of literary genres, world literature, and the theoretical foundations of translation studies and literary studies.
To be able to analyse both fiction and non-fiction genres, distinguish unique and cross-cultural features in various literary genres, apply translation and literary studies concepts, plan and assess one’s work, and use multimedia tools.
To have skills in analytical thinking, information management, critical analysis, working with Ukrainian and English-language resources, conducting research, producing complex oral and written messages, and collaborating in educational settings.
Course content
The discipline involves mastering systematic knowledge of genre theories in literary translation, extrapolated onto key achievements and debated aspects of contemporary general translation theory and practice. Its subject is the study of various genre-driven approaches to translating literary texts and those bordering on literary, based on Ukrainian translations of English-language texts across different genres, subgenres, and hybrid forms, as well as translations of Ukrainian texts into English. The discipline aims at both theoretical understanding and practical mastery of translation methodologies for works of various genres, fostering skills in pre-translation genre analysis and recreating the unique characteristics of diverse literary genres in the target language, covering both historical and contemporary genres.

Planned learning activities and teaching methods
The educational activities and teaching methods throughout the semester in lectures and practical sessions include tasks completed during independent work, such as preparation for discussions and presentation preparation; work in practical sessions, including commentaries, additions, participation in discussions, and presentation defence; interim assessment: blitz surveys, written tests.
Assessment methods and criteria
The maximum number of points throughout the semester is 100 points, including tasks completed during independent work – 20 points, during practical sessions – 25 points, interim assessment – 30 points, and final evaluation in the form of a written assignment – 25 points.
