Learning outcomes
PLO 3. To implement the modern methods and techniques, namely informational, in order to perform a successful and effective professional activity and guarantee the quality of research in a specific philological field. PLO 6. To use knowledge on expressive, emotive, logical language means and speech techniques in order to achieve an intended pragmatic result and organize a successful communication. PLO 11. To perform a scholarly analysis of linguistic, speech and literary material, interpret and structure it considering expedient methodological principles, formulate summarizations based on the individually processed data. PLO 14. To create, analyze, and edit texts of various genres and styles. PLO 20. To understand the criteria of translator’s best practices, demonstrate competence in solving tasks in literary translation.

Prerequisites and co-requisites
The program is designed for students who have studied English as the first language during eight semesters of study and have an appropriate level of preparation. The student should know the basic translation and linguistic terms; principles of translation analysis and analysis of linguistic material; peculiarities of semantics and functioning of units of all levels of the English and Ukrainian languages; be able to: apply linguistic tools in practice; have basic translation skills; selection, analysis and interpretation of speech facts; translation analysis.
Course content
The aim of the discipline is the formation of skills and abilities in audiovisual translation from English into Ukrainian and vice versa, knowledge about its features, the principles of dubbing and subtitling, the specifics of film translation from the perspective of audiovisual translation traditions of different countries, types of subtitling and dubbing, strategies for creating subtitles, translation for dubbing, etc. Teaching students the main translation strategies and transformations, the principles of collaborative work in the film industry, performing audiovisual translation, and studying scientific literature are stipulated by this aim. The training takes place based on the main provisions of the communicative approach to learning a foreign language using authentic materials and real communicative and translation situations modelling. Training is conducted in the form of practical classes and independent work of students.

Planned learning activities and teaching methods
Educational activities during the semester: • tasks performed in the process of independent work; • intermediate control - written tests; • answer in practical classes; projects, portfolio of translations, and presentations.
Assessment methods and criteria
Semester assessment: • the maximum number of points during the semester is 100, • tasks performed in the process of independent work: LO 1.1–1.3, 2.1–2.3, 3, 4 – 20 points • intermediate control – written tests on four aspects of language competence: LO 1.1-1.3, 2.1, 2.3, 4 – 30 points • answer in practical classes: LO 1.1–4 – 25 points (estimated depending on the completeness of disclosure); final assessment in the form of a test: • translation of the English text of the script – 15 points, (1) theoretical question (5 points); (2) oral translation commentary (5 points).
