Learning outcomes
Understand the relationship between the structure and properties of substances. Apply the basic principles of quantum mechanics to describe the structure of the atom, molecules and chemical bonds. Know the principles and procedures of physical, chemical, physico-chemical research methods, typical equipment and devices. Apply the basic principles of thermodynamics and chemical kinetics to solve professional problems. Monitor and analyze scientific sources of information and professional literature. Discuss the problems of chemistry and its applications with colleagues and the target audience.

Prerequisites and co-requisites
Have basic knowledge of physical chemistry, inorganic chemistry, crystal chemistry and physics at the bachelor's level.
Course content
Theories of electronic structure of crystalline and amorphous bodies, the relationship of electronic structure, crystal structure and properties of materials. Point, linear, two-dimensional defects, their influence on the properties of materials. Thermodynamics and kinetics of phase transformations, influence on the formation of material properties.

Assessment methods and criteria
The evaluation is carried out on a 100-point scale. Semester control includes homework, tests, preparation of abstracts and report with a presentation. Maximum / minimum number of points that can be obtained by a student during the semester assessment of 100 points / 50 points. The final evaluation is conducted in the form of a test. The maximum number of points that can be obtained by a student on the test is 20 points. This evaluation is for students who scored less than 60 points during the semester.
