Learning outcomes
То understand the relationship between the structure and properties of substances. Ability to use acquired knowledge and skills for calculations, mapping and modeling of chemical systems and processes, processing of experimental data. То work alone or in a group, get results within a limited time with an emphasis on professional integrity and scientific integrity. To demonstrate knowledge and understanding of basic facts, concepts, principles and theories in chemistry. To interpret experimentally obtained data and correlate them with relevant theories in chemistry.
Form of study
Full-time form
Prerequisites and co-requisites
This course is based on knowledge of general courses in inorganic, organic, analytical, physical chemistry, physics and mathematics.
Course content
The subject of the academic discipline "Colloidal Chemistry" is structured in such a way as to give students an idea of colloidal chemistry as a science of the dispersed state of substances and surface phenomena. The features of the objects studied by colloidal chemistry, the peculiarities of the colloidal state of matter, in which all bodies can be under certain conditions, are discussed. The main types of classification of dispersed systems are studied, information is provided on methods of extracting dispersed systems. The optical and molecular kinetic properties of dispersed systems are considered. The main section is devoted to surface phenomena and adsorption. Thermodynamics of surface phenomena, adhesion, cohesion, wetting, adsorption of surface-active substances are considered. Attention is also paid to colloidal surfactants and lyophilic dispersion systems. Much attention is paid to the formation mechanisms and structure of the electric double layer. The theories of the structure of the electric double layer, electrosurface phenomena in dispersed systems are considered.
