Learning outcomes
Knowledge to understand key chemical concepts, essential facts, concepts, and theories relating to natural sciences, life and earth sciences, as well as chemical technologies at a level sufficient for professional application and to enable further deep understanding of specialized fields of chemistry. Knowledge to understand the periodic law and the periodic table of elements, to describe, explain and predict properties of chemical elements and compounds based on them.To know principles and procedures of physical, chemical, physicochemical research methods, typical equipment, and instruments.Skill to plan and perform a chemical experiment, to apply suitable methods and techniques for preparation of solutions and reagents. Ability to work individually or in a group, to obtain results within a limited time with an emphasis on professional honesty and scientific integrity. Skill to interpret the experimental data and to correlate this data with corresponding theories in chemistry.

Course content
This discipline includes the study of: the main stages of development of the global environmental movement; origin, essence, ways to solve global environmental problems of today; classification of substances - environmental pollutants, review of hazardous and harmful chemicals, their labeling; basic steps of risk assessment, assessment of toxicity.

Lectures (with the use of computer presentations), practical classes, independent work, consultations
Assessment methods and criteria
Semester control includes modular tests (written), homework, oral presentations, presentations and defense of laboratory work. The evaluation is based on a 100-point system. Maximum / minimum number of points that can be obtained by a student for a semester grade of 60 points / 36 points. The final assessment is conducted in the form of a written exam. The maximum / minimum number of points that can be obtained by a student in the exam is 40 points / 24 points.
