Learning outcomes
Knowledge to understand key chemical concepts, essential facts, principles, and theories relating to natural sciences, life and earth sciences, as well as chemical technologies at a level sufficient for professional application and to enable further deep understanding of specialized fields of chemistry. Knowledge to understand the basics of mathematics at a level sufficient to achieve other learning outcomes provided by this guideline and educational program. Knowledge to understand basic patterns and types of chemical reactions as well as their characteristics. Knowledge to understand the relationship between structure and properties of substances. To know principles and procedures of physicochemical research methods, typical equipment, and instruments. Skill to plan and perform a chemical experiment, to apply suitable methods and techniques for preparation of solutions and reagents. Skill to apply basic principles of thermodynamics and chemical kinetics to solve professional tasks.

Prerequisites and co-requisites
Have basic knowledge of university courses in higher mathematics (equations and systems of equations, operations with powers and roots, average values, natural and decimal logarithms, proportionality, functions and their graphs, integration, differentiation), as well as the basics of general chemistry, statistical methods in chemistry on undergraduate levels.
Course content
The "Physical Chemistry" course consists of lectures and practical classes, as well as laboratory work on the main sections of physical chemistry, namely: chemical thermodynamics, physical chemistry of solutions and solutions of electrolytes, chemical equilibrium, phase equilibrium. As a result of studying the academic discipline, the student will learn to formulate, understand the physical meaning and mathematical notation of basic physicochemical laws, apply basic physicochemical laws to explain certain features and conditions of the state of chemical systems, for practical calculations of various physicochemical characteristics of chemical processes, and also determine these characteristics experimentally.

Assessment methods and criteria
Semester control includes homework, tests and laboratory works. The evaluation is based on a 100-point scale. The maximum / minimum number of points that can be obtained by a student during the semester assessment is 60 points / 36 points. The final assessment is conducted in the form of an exam. The maximum / minimum number of points that can be obtained by a student in the exam is 40 points / 24 points.
