Learning outcomes
1. To know the basic concepts of translation theory; regularities and structure of the translation process as a peculiar, specialized type of speech activity; types of lexical, grammatical, and stylistic differences between English and Ukrainian; levels of equivalence in translation; the concept of translation unit; translation techniques and transformations; types of interpretation and translation; criteria for assessing the quality of translation. 2. To be able to carry out a full written translation of texts of publicistic, official, and scientific styles in accordance with the specialty of students; to carry out consecutive interpretation in the socio-political and scientific-professional spheres; to perform written abstract and annotative translation of texts of publicistic and scientific styles; to provide abstract interpretation of audio texts and materials of electronic mass media. 3. To demonstrate the ability to communicate and speak in a foreign language.

Prerequisites and co-requisites
The discipline “Theory and Practice of Translation (English)” is taught after students master the discipline “Foreign Language (English)” and is also based on knowledge and skills acquired during the study of the discipline “Foreign Language for Professional Purposes (English)”.

Assessment methods and criteria
1. Two content modules, each of 10 points – 20 points; 2. Current control of progress: English-Ukrainian written complete and abstract translation 10 points; Ukrainian-English written complete and abstract translation 10 points; consecutive interpretation 10 points, theoretical questionnaire 10 points – 40 points in total; 3. Comprehensive final module: 40 points in total.
