Learning outcomes
The student should know the nature of international relations and regional development, the evolution and the current status of the theoretical analysis of international relations and world politics, the nature, and resources of state policy in the international arena, as well as the activities of other international actors. The student should know and understand the nature and dynamics of international security, understand the features of its provision at the global, regional and national levels, and know the nature and approaches to resolving international conflicts. The student should know the principles and mechanisms of ensuring the state’s foreign policy, the synergy between the foreign and internal policy, the determination and realization of state national interests in the international arena, and the development and implementation of foreign policy decisions.

Prerequisites and co-requisites
1) successful mastering of the courses “Introduction to the International Relations’, ‘International and Political Space‘, “Regional Studies”, “International Relations from the Ancient World to the Early Modern Era”; 2) the knowledge of the theoretical basis of the international political process
Course content
Module 1. History of International Relations (1789-1914) 1.IR on the eve of the French Revolution. 2.IR during the French Revolution. 3.IR during the Restoration. 4.The Crimean war and its international consequences. 5.IR at the final stage of establishing nation-states in Western Europe. 6.The colonial policy of great powers in Asia in ХІХ century. 7.IR during the American Civil War. 8.The Great Eastern crisis of 1875-1876 and the Russian-Turkish war of 1877-1878. 9.The split of Europe into two rival military alliances at the end of ХІХ – beginning of ХХ century. 10.The end of the world colonial partition at the final third of ХІХ century. Module II. History of IR (1914-1945) 1.IR on the eve and during the WWI. 2.The establishment of the Versailles-Washington system of IR. 3.The Russian empire dissolution, its impact on IR. 4. IR in the period of new European balance of power (1923-1932). 5.The development of regional system in the Middle East. 6.The collapse of the Washington system. 7.Dissolution of the Versailles system, the German hegemony in Europe. 8. IR at the beginning of the WWII, formation of ‘The Grand Alliance’. 9. The debates of the Big Three on IR regulation at the end of the war in Europe. 10. IR in Asia-Pacific during the WWII.

Planned learning activities and teaching methods

Assessment methods and criteria
The level of achievement of all planned learning outcomes is determined by the results of the student's activities during the seminars, individual and group papers, tests, analytical research and its presentation. The course is taught during two semesters and consists of Module I and Module II. At the end of semester 1 the student is supposed to pass a written exam (the maximum score for exam is 30). The final evaluation (at the end of semester 2) is also organised in a form of written exam (the maximum score for exam is 40). The student is supposed to pass the course by earning a score of 60 or higher, the maximum score is 100.
