Learning outcomes
Be able to use the historical experience of the state and law development in practice during the formation of a democratic state governed by the rule of law in Ukraine; analyze legal acts, international treaties of Ukraine and their impact on the development of science of international law. To form the ability to systematize and generalize the current experience of leading foreign countries in state and legal construction to predict the further state-building and legal development of Ukraine. To form the ability to understand the need to harmonize the national legislation of Ukraine with the norms of international law and to know the ways of their implementation.

Prerequisites and co-requisites
Knowledge of historical and legal processes, general tendencies, specific features of historical development, main reasons and consequences of the emergence, evolution and change of state and legal systems in Ukraine and in other countries of the world; to know the processes of emergence and development of state and law of Ukraine and the main countries of the world, the formation of Ukrainian state traditions and their impact on other countries, to study state and legal concepts and institutions, specifics of the legal status of a person at different stages of historical development, sources of law and legal systems in their historical specificity and chronological sequence on the territory of Ukraine and foreign countries; place, role and significance of Ukraine in the international state and legal architecture at all stages of formation and development of national statehood
Course content
Thematic plan of the discipline: • State and legal development of Ukraine in antiquity • The early feudal state and the law of Kyivan Rus and the Galicia-Volyn state • The Lithuanian-Russian state and its law, Ukrainian lands as part of the Polish-Lithuanian Commonwealth. • Characteristics of Zaporizhzhya Sich, its military-administrative system and law. • Comparative characteristics of the socio-political system and law on Ukrainian lands as part of the Russian and Austro-Hungarian empires (XVII-early XX centuries). • Revival of the Ukrainian national state and law (1917-1920) • Analysis of the state and law during the inclusion and stay of Ukraine in the totalitarian USSR • Analysis of the establishment and development of the modern Ukrainian state and law • Characteristics of the slave-owning state and the laws of the Ancient East • Comparative characteristics of slave states and the law of ancient Greece (Sparta, Athens) and Rome • Comparative characteristics of the early feudal state and law (the state of the Franks) • Comparative characteristics of state-representative monarchy in the countries of Western Europe – England • Comparative characteristics of absolute monarchy in the countries of Western Europe - Germany. • Comparative analysis of the formation and development of the US state and law • Comparative characteristics of the emergence and development of the bourgeois state and law in France and Germany • Comparative characteristics of totalitarian states and the rights of fascist, Nazi regimes and military dictatorships • Comparative characteristics of the state and the law of countries in modern times • Comparative characteristics of the emergence of new independent states in Central Europe

Assessment methods and criteria
Evaluation is carried out according to the modular rating system. Current control: answers (up to 30 points), additions (up to 5 points), written assignment (up to 5 points), final modular test (up to 10 points). The form of final control is an exam. The exam is conducted in writing. The student's answer to the exam – up to 40 points.
