Learning outcomes
PLO 8. To assess the historical legacy and new achievements of Literature Studies.  PLO 9. To characterize theoretical principles (concepts, categories, principles, basic concepts, etc.) and applied aspects of the chosen linguistic specialization. PLO 10. To collect and systematize facts of language and literature, to interpret and translate texts of various styles and genres (depending on the chosen specialization). PLO 11. To carry out a scientific analysis of language, speech and literary material, interpret and structure it taking into account appropriate methodological principles, formulate generalizations based on independently processed data.

Prerequisites and co-requisites
1. Knowledge of the main methods of literary analysis, understanding of the uniqueness of individual levels of artistry and the need to select methods that most fully illuminate them. 2. The ability to operate with the basic terminology and conceptual apparatus of literary studies. 3. Mastering the skills of literary analysis, first of all, the ability to choose the necessary methodology for the analysis of a specific literary work.
Course content
Within the scope of the course, students get acquainted with the modern theory of literature and the methodologies developed within it for the analysis of literary works. The subject of the course includes delving into current methods of analysis of modern literary works. Students learn new categories and concepts related to the theory of literature. The course is aimed at solving the following tasks: - familiarization with the basic ideas of Western theories of literature; - familiarization with the methodologies of analysis of a literary work within the framework of relevant theories and concepts; - strengthening the skills of literary analysis and the ability to problem-solve the polycritical reading of text material; - formation of skills in processing scientific and critical literature; - mastering new categories and concepts of the specialty.

Planned learning activities and teaching methods
Learning activities: lectures, seminars, consultations, independent work. Teaching methods: explanatory-illustrative method, method of problem-based learning (problem-based lecture), heuristic method, preparation and discussion of scientific-analytical reports (presentations), educational discussion.
Assessment methods and criteria
Current assessment: scientific and analytical reports, test. The final assessment is an exam. Evaluation criteria for each form of control are given in the course program.
