Learning outcomes
PLO 8. Know and understand the system of language, the general properties of literature as the art of word, the history of Swedish literature, be able to apply this knowledge in professional activities. PLO 13. Analyze and interpret works of Ukrainian and foreign fiction and oral folk art, determine their specificity and place in the literary process (according to the chosen specialization). PLO 15. Perform linguistic, literary and translation analysis of texts of different styles and genres.

Prerequisites and co-requisites
1. Knowledge: Secondary school program in Ukrainian and world literature. 2. Ability: to carry out a basic literary analysis of an artistic text at the level of the secondary school program, to distinguish literary eras, trends, styles and phenomena.
Course content
The course "Introduction to Literary Studies" is a one-semester courses of 2 ECTS credits, within which attention is focused on forming in students an idea of literary studies as a science at the heart of philological sciences, the subject of its study, sections of literary studies and their specifics, schools and methods of literary studies, literary studies and inter-subject connections, as well as the formation and consolidation of students' skills of in-depth and complex literary analysis based on the basic tools of literary studies and its gradual expansion, in particular taking into account such factors as the generic and genre affiliation of an artistic work, its figurative system, plot lines, compositional, spatiotemporal, narrative and intertextual characteristics.

Planned learning activities and teaching methods
Explanatory and illustrative method, method of problem-based learning (problem lecture), heuristic method, analytical tasks, educational discussions at seminar classes, preparation of essays, independent work of students.
Assessment methods and criteria
Current assessment: answer to the seminar class, essay, final test with open answers. The final assessment is an exam. Evaluation criteria for each form of control are given in the course program.
