P01. To analyze the peculiarities of natural and social processes in geographical envelopes.
P02. Apply your knowledge to identify and solve problematic issues and make informed decisions in geographic research.
P07. To know modern quantitative and qualitative methods of geographical research, to be able to apply them in production and research activities.
P12. Model geographic objects and processes, using modern quantitative and qualitative methods and geoinformation technologies.

Prerequisites and co-requisites
1. Know the basics of classical and genetic soil science, geography, biogeography, genesis and morphology of soils.
2. To be able to use soil maps, results of monitoring studies, statistical data of departments of various subordinates.
3. To have elementary skills of morphogenetic description of soil deposits and profiles of the main types of soils, the method of choosing the place of laying a soil section, selection and preparation of soil samples for analytical studies.
Course content
Factors and processes of soil formation with human participation. Distribution of anthropogenically modified soils. Types and intensity of anthropogenic influences. Features of natural and anthropogenic soil formation. Classification in the system of FAO (Legend to the Soil Map of the World, FAO/UNESCO) and European countries. Classification in the system of WRB (World Reference Base for Soil Resources, 1998) and the US Soil Service (Soil Taxonomy). Classifiers and diagnostic horizons in classification systems. Soils of low-intensity use. Agrogenic and agrogenic accumulative soils. Man-made soils and soils of urban areas. Soil-like bodies. Man-made soils in areas of mineral extraction. Artificial soil-like formations and soils of reclaimed territories.
Urban soils and peculiarities of their functioning.
