PLO 4. Understand the fundamental principles of human, nature and society genesis. PLO 8. Know and understand the system of language, the general properties of literature as the art of word, the history of English language and literature, be able to apply this knowledge in professional activities. PLO 13. Analyse and interpret works of Ukrainian and foreign fiction and oral folk art, to determine their particularities and place in the literary process. PLO 15. Perform linguistic, literary and translation analysis of texts of different styles and genres.

Full-time form

Before starting this course, students should know the most general information on the theory of literature learned in high school, and have basic factual knowledge of a humanitarian nature. To be able to apply existing knowledge in practice, in particular in attempts at own translations and their editing. Possess elementary skills of scientific research and information management; critical attitude to the analyzed phenomena; use of foreign language professional informative sources; works with cultural texts; production of complex oral and written messages; interaction and cooperation in learning in exploratory situations.

The purpose of the discipline is to give students methods, conditions of operation, etc. "Introduction to Literary Studies" is a propaedeutic course for the classical education of a philologist. The subject, tasks of the course structure, its role in the system of literary disciplines, branches of literary studies and the convention of their division into "main and auxiliary" are highlighted. The phenomenon of art in general and fiction as the art of words in particular, the problems of geneology, poetics of a literary work, its form-content unity, the most general regularities of the development of literature, the process and its theoretical reception are understood.

Verbal, visual, interactive and practical methods of learning: lecture, practical session, independent work. Educational activities during the semester: independent performance of creative tasks (reviews, annotations, attempts at own translations); answers and additions in practical classes; participation in discussions; control work.

Semester assessment: The overall grade for the semester consists of points received for classroom and independent work (min / max.): the answer to the practical lesson - 15 (3x5) / 25 (5x5) points; independent performance of creative tasks (reviews, annotations, attempts at own translations) – 10 (2x5) / 10 (5x2) points; addition in practical classes - 10 (1x10) / 10 (1x10) points; participation in discussions at lectures and practical classes - 10 (2x5) / 25 (5x5) points; written work of intermediate control - 5 / 10 points; final test - 10 / 20 points. The maximum number of points is 100 points; minimum - 60 points. Final assessment: credit. Students who scored a total of less than 60 points during the semester must prepare material from the topics from which the debt arose, write final tests, and midterm control tasks to pass the credit. The final tests are not rewritten or rewritten (except in cases of providing certificates of illness).
