Learning outcomes
PRN 3. To organize the process of one's education and self-education in the field of Slavic Studies. PRN 8. To know and understand the language system, the general properties of literature as an art of words, the history of the Bulgarian language and literature, and to be able to apply this knowledge in professional activities. PRN 9. Characterize the dialectal and social varieties of the Bulgarian language, describe the sociolinguistic situation. PRN17. Collect, analyze, systematize and interpret the facts of the Bulgarian language and speech and use them to solve complex problems and problems in specialized areas of professional activity and/or study.

Prerequisites and co-requisites
Successful assimilation of the course material "Introduction to linguistics", "Introduction to Slavic philology", "Old Slavic language", "Modern Bulgarian language: functional aspect", "Modern Bulgarian language. Phonetics, phonology". The student should know what place the Bulgarian language occupies in the genealogical and typological classifications of the languages of the world; the basic rules of grammar, linguistic terminology; the grammatical structure of the modern Bulgarian literary language of everyday and social communication.
Course content
The course contains 2 substantive parts. The first involves familiarization with the historical grammar of the Bulgarian language. The changes that the phonetic system of the Bulgarian language underwent during its historical development are studied; processes that led to a radical restructuring of the morphological system of the Bulgarian language. Historical changes in the vocabulary of the Bulgarian language, foreign influences are characterized. The second part is devoted to the history of formation and codification of the Bulgarian literary language. Processes that took place during different periods of its development are considered. The main issues of Bulgarian dialectology are briefly covered. The main stages of the development of the Bulgarian language from its creation in the second half of the 9th century are studied. of the first Slavic literary language to various aspects of the functioning of the Bulgarian literary language in modern society.

Planned learning activities and teaching methods
Lectures and practical classes, guidance of independent work and monitoring of its implementation, individual consultations, exam.
Assessment methods and criteria
After the lectures, practical classes are held on relevant topics, at which the planned types of work and forms of control are assessed: oral report (max. 5), essay (max. 10), additions, participation in the discussion (max. 3), presentation (max. 6), modular control work (max. 15). During of the semester, written works are checked, individual consultations are held, the level of assimilation of the material assigned for independent study is assessed. The final grade is assigned based on the results of the student's work during the semester and the oral answer on the exam.
