Prerequisites and co-requisites
The program is designed for students who studied English in a secondary school, completed the 1st-year course on English at the philological department in the Institute of Philology, and achieved the B2 level of English. The student must successfully master the following subjects: "General English", "Introduction to Linguistics", "Theory of Linguistic Communication" and be able to: • effectively use English orally and in writing, in different genres, styles, and registers of communication (formal, informal, semi-formal) to fulfil various communicative tasks; • to create oral and written texts of various genres and styles in English; • to carry out linguistic analysis of texts in different styles and genres. The program provides comprehensive language teaching: all aspects of language are studied simultaneously to acquire knowledge of English and communication skills.
Course content
The course aims to study business communication as an interdisciplinary field of knowledge and includes the following topics: business areas and types of business structures, the role of communication in business, definition and typology of business communication, specific features of interaction in multicultural business environment, oral and written English business communication strategies. At the end of the course students must know the basic principles, concepts and terms of the business communication theory, single out the specific features of English-language business discourse, be able to think critically, analyze communicative situations in business, identify and neutralize communication problems, communicate effectively in English orally and in writing to achieve business goals.

Planned learning activities and teaching methods
Training activities during the semester: • extra-curriculum exercises done individually, • creative projects; • mid-term control - written tests on four aspects of language competence; • responses during practice classes.
Assessment methods and criteria
Semester assessment: • maximum score for the semester - 75 points, • exercises performed in the process of independent work, creative work - 20 points • intermediate control - written tests on four aspects of language competence - 30 points • responses during practical classes - 20 points; Final assessment in the credit format: • maximum score for the credit - 25 points, • the credit includes two tasks: 1) written test, 2) oral conversational topic from the list of the topics learnt during the semester Admission to the credit: Students who scored totally less than the critical-calculation minimum (35 points) are not allowed to take the credit.
