Learning outcomes
PLO 2. Process information effectively: collect relevant information from a variety of sources, including professional literature and electronic databases, critically analyze and interpret it, organize, classify and systematize it. PLO 5. Collaborate with colleagues, representatives of other cultures and religions, supporters of different political views, etc. PLO 8. Know and understand the system of language, the general properties of literature as the art of word, the history of English and the two studied Western European languages, and literature, be able to apply this knowledge in professional activities. PLO 13. Analyze and interpret works of Ukrainian and English fiction and oral folk art, to determine their peculiarities and place in the literary process. PLO 15. Perform linguistic, literary and specific philological analysis of texts of different styles and genres.

Prerequisites and co-requisites
1. Successful mastering of the previous parts of the course Foreign Literature (1-5). 2. Knowledge of basic terms and concepts of Literary Studies in Ukrainian and English. 3. Skills of applying basic approaches of literary analysis and skills of text interpretation.
Course content
The course introduces students to the development of English literature of the first half of the 20th century (until 1945), including Edwardian literature, literature of the Modernism with its tredns, as well as alternative ways of developing contemporary English literature. The course reveals the changing worldview and aesthetic principles of creativity in the literature of Modernism, emphasizes the radical changes in philosophical and scientific thinking, form and content of works, illustrates the desire of artists to create a new "artistic language". Students get acquainted with a number of trends, genres, narrative techniques, including the flow of associations and the flow of consciousness, characteristic of the relevant stages of development of the literary process in that period. Students continue to develop general skills of literary-critical analysis and the ability to independently interpret literary texts.

Planned learning activities and teaching methods
Forms of study consist of lectures, seminars, and students’ self-study. Teaching methods include answers at the seminars, written analysis of the literary work, and test paper.
Assessment methods and criteria
The final mark for the course is formed as the sum of the points of formative and summative assessments. Formative assessment includes answers at seminars (max 35/min 21 points), written analysis of the literary work (max 10/min 6 points), and a final test paper (max 15/min 9 points). In total, in-process evaluations of academic progress during the semester a student can gain max 60/min 36 points. Summative assessment is arranged in the form of the exam. The exam scores max 40/min 24 points. To be admitted to the exam, a student must score min 36 points. To receive a positive mark in the discipline, the mark for the exam must be at least 24 points.
