PLO 2. Process information effectively: collect relevant information from a variety of sources, including professional literature and electronic databases, critically analyze and interpret it, organize, classify and systematize it. PLO 3. Organize own learning and self-education process. PLO 5. Collaborate with colleagues, representatives of other cultures and religions, supporters of different political views, etc. PLO 6. Use information and communication technologies to solve complex specialized tasks and issues of professional activity. PLO 7. Understand the major issues of philology and approaches to solving those using relevant methods and innovative approaches.

Prerequisites and co-requisites
The program is designed for students who are at least B2 English users; they are supposed to be able to work with scientific texts and to possess basic communicative skills in modelling oral and written texts in English.
Course content
The course acquaints students with the traditions of university education in Ukraine and around the world. It reveals the circumstances of the establishment of St. Vladimir University in Kyiv. The history of the organization of the educational process, the reforms that took place in education at different times, the legal status of the university are considered. The course covers the development of scientific schools at Kyiv University, the peculiarities of training scientific staff, the organization of international cooperation. The course gives an idea of the formation of philology as a separate scientific field, the essence of philological disciplines, their subject, object as well as methods of research used in them. It reveals classical paradigms of philological scientific knowledge and the formation of new paradigms, acquaints students with the names of outstanding representatives of various philological directions. Classes are conducted in the form of lectures.

Planned learning activities and teaching methods
Training activities during the semester: writing tests during the lectures; writing essays during the individual work.
Assessment methods and criteria
Semester assessment: maximum score during the semester is 80 points: module tests: LO 1.1-1.4 – 40 points; essays: LO 2.1-2.4 – 40 points; At the end of the semester the final test is written: LO 2.5, 4.1 – 20 points. The final score (maximum 100 points) is defined as the sum of points obtained for systematic work during the semester, taking into account the final test. The final credit score is based on the results of the student’s work throughout the semester and the results of the final test.
