Learning outcomes
PLO 2. Process information effectively: collect relevant information from a variety of sources, including professional literature and electronic databases, critically analyze and interpret it, organize, classify and systematize it. PLO 5. Collaborate with colleagues, representatives of other cultures and religions, supporters of different political views, etc. PLO 8. Know and understand the system of language, the general properties of literature as the art of word, the history of English and the two studied Western European languages, and literature, be able to apply this knowledge in professional activities. PLO 13. Analyze and interpret works of Ukrainian and English fiction and oral folk art, to determine their peculiarities and place in the literary process. PLO 15. Perform linguistic, literary and specific philological analysis of texts of different styles and genres.

Prerequisites and co-requisites
1. Successful mastering of previous courses of the multidiscipline Foreign Literature (Parts 1-6). 2. Knowledge of the of the literary process stages, understanding the peculiarity of each period in the development of foreign literature. 3. Ability to operate with basic terminology and conceptual apparatus of literary criticism. 3. Possession of skills of literary analysis, skills of reasoned interpretation of literary text.
Course content
The purpose of the course is to introduce the perspective of the literary process in the UK, USA and other English-speaking countries after the Second World War in synchrony and diachrony. Being an overview, the course is aimed at introducing key authors and significant works of modern fiction in a variety of contexts: in addition to literary, such ones as socio-cultural, historical, philosophical, political and others. The structure of the course enables students to form the idea of the continuity of the literary process of the 2nd half of the 20th – beginning if the 21st century and its genetic links to the literature of the first half of the 20th century. Students master a cluster of new terms and concepts related to the peculiarities of the genre system of English-language literature of this period and the variety of its problems and topics. In addition, students sharpen the skills of literary analysis and reasoned interpretation of a work of fiction.

Planned learning activities and teaching methods
The syllabus of the discipline includes lectures and seminars, as well as independent students’ work. According to the syllabus the time assigned to these forms of tuition is 14, 16 and 30 hours correspondingly.
Assessment methods and criteria
A two-level assessment of the mastered material is provided. It includes assessment of theoretical tuition - learning outcomes (knowledge 1.1 - 1.5), which is 40% of the total assessment, and practical training - learning outcomes (skills 2.1-2.4); (communication 3.1, 3.2); (autonomy and responsibility 4.1-4.3), which is 60% of the total score. The final assessment is conducted in the form of an exam (maximum 40 points). To be allowed to sit the exam, a student must score at least 36 points. To get a “pass” in the discipline, the grade for the exam can not be less than 24 points. The examination card presupposes answers to 3 questions: theoretical (maximum 15 points), theoretical and practical (maximum 15 points) and practical (maximum 10 points).
