Learning outcomes
Know: - the basic law of crystal chemistry - 3 categories of symmetry, 7 syngoniums, 14 Brave beds, 32 types of symmetry, 47 simple forms, 230 spatial groups of symmetry. - constitution of minerals Be able: - to grow crystals in laboratory conditions - distinguish structural types and motifs of minerals on models - read crystal chemical formulas of minerals
Form of study
Full-time form
Prerequisites and co-requisites
To know the theoretical foundations of general mineralogy and crystallography.
Course content
The basics of the course are the concept of "atom and crystal", crystalline structure, which is considered in a differentiated way - structural types and motifs of minerals, morphotropy, polymorphism, polytypism, order-disorder in minerals, defects in minerals; crystal chemical formulas of minerals. The goal of the discipline is to help students learn the basic essence of crystal chemistry: the regular relationship of the crystal structure. Chemical composition, associated properties and conditions of formation of minerals.

Planned learning activities and teaching methods
Lectures, laboratory work, independent work
Assessment methods and criteria
Semester assessment: 1) Control work on the basics of the constitution of minerals (written work) - max 15 points/ min 9 points; 2) Control work on the physical properties of minerals - (written work) - max 15 points/ min 9 points; 3) Grade for work in laboratory classes - max 30 points / min 18 points. Final evaluation - in the form of credit: Content modules (CM) form points, which are assigned based on the results of the student's work throughout the semester, as a sum (simple or weighted) of points for systematic work during the semester. The final evaluation in the form of credit is not mandatory, if the student refuses to participate in this evaluation form, the student will not receive the corresponding points for the final evaluation. Control is carried out according to the modular rating system and involves: performing 2 independent practical works and carrying out 2 written modular control works. The final assessment is conducted in the form of a written assessment.
