Learning outcomes
1. Evaluate and substantiate the methodological base of scientific research, in particular, for your dissertation work in an international context 2. Assess the possibilities and limitations of the latest methods of scientific research using experimental, observational, qualitative, quantitative or mixed design. 3. Formulate working hypotheses of the investigated problem and choose the optimal research design and appropriate methods of data collection and analysis to test the hypotheses. 4. Determine methodological principles and plan your dissertation research depending on the goal and in accordance with the norms of professional and academic ethics.

Prerequisites and co-requisites
1. Know the main methods of collecting and analyzing sociological data. 2. To be able to prepare a program of sociological research. 3. To have the skills of working with English-language scientific literature.
Course content
1. Justification of methodological and theoretical foundations of sociological research. 2. Application of experimental, observational, qualitative, quantitative or mixed design in sociological research. 3. Justification of the choice of design and methods of sociological research for the dissertation. 4. Prepare 2 summaries (in graphical or tabular form) and compare the methods of sociological research and the main types of design. 5. Select 1 scientific publication in a leading international journal and 1 in a leading Ukrainian journal on the topic of the dissertation and assess the adequacy of the chosen design and research methods for achieving 6. On the basis of the recommended and additional literature, formulate hypotheses and justify the choice of research paradigm, design and methods of sociological research for the dissertation work.

- semester assessment: 1. Creative practical task from topic 1, RN 2.1, RN 2.2 = 20 points/12 points 2. Creative practical task from topic 2, RN 2.1, RN 2.2 = 20 points/12 points 3. Creative practical task from topic 3, RN 2.3, RN 2.4 = 20 points/12 points - final assessment: Exam (creative practical task) RN 2.1, RN 2.2, RN 2.3, RN 2.4 = 40 points/24 points
