Learning outcomes
1.1. To understand modern thematic and theoretical strategies of sociological knowledge in international sociology.
2.1 To evaluate and justify the theoretical basis of scientific research, in particular, for their thesis.
2.2 To substantiate a scientific problem and to define the state of its scientific development analytically.
2.3 To create theoretical models in sociological research.
3.1 To write scientific texts in the genre of a scientific research project, abstracts, and scientific articles.

Prerequisites and co-requisites
1. To know the history of the development of world and Ukrainian theoretic sociology.
2. To know and be able to critically evaluate the heuristic potential of classical and post-classical sociological paradigms.
3. To have the skills of critical analysis and work with English-language scientific literature.
Course content
1. Modern challenges of sociology and dilemmas of sociological science development: Global and Ukrainian dimensions.
2. Thematic strategies of sociological research in the XXI century.
3. Leading cognitive orientations in modern sociology: the specificity of scientistic, humanitarian and technological orientations.
4. Positive and negative heuristics of modern theoretical strategies of sociological research.
5. Substantiation of the scientific problem and theoretical foundations of its sociological research (on the topic of the dissertation).
6. Preparation of abstracts of a scientific report on the topic of the dissertation.
7. Development of the design of a scientific article on the topic of the dissertation.

Planned learning activities and teaching methods
Lecture, practical training, individual work. Lecture-discussion, cascade discussion, brainstorming. Case-method, scientific research method.
Assessment methods and criteria
Semester grading:
1Participation in discussions - the classes will offer forms of individual and group work on various tasks to analyze the readings, analyze the case and justification of the principles of their own research (10 points max/ 6 points min).
2Creative tasks on preparing an analytical review of strategies, reviewing their cognitive opportunities (10 points max/ b points min).
3A fragment of the text of the thesis with a substantiation of the scientific problem and an analytical review of its development; its presentation (20 points max/12 points min).
4Abstracts of the scientific report on the results of the dissertation research and their presentation (10 points max / 6 points min).
5Design of a scientific article based on the results of the dissertation research and its presentation (10 points max / 6 points min).
Final assessment: written exam - 40 points. The minimum score for successful completion (obtaining an overall positive grade) of the exam is 24 points
