1. Know the main stages of development of sociology, key areas of classical sociological theorizing
2. Be able to work with scientific literature and primary sources
3. Have the conceptual apparatus of sociological theory
Course content
Sociological theory: current status and ways of its development
Structural functionalism: from the theory of action to the general theory of systems
Neo-Marxism in the sociology of the twentieth century.
Interpretive tradition in sociology: phenomenology, ethnomethodology and symbolic interactionism
Poststructuralism and neofunctionalism in modern sociological theory
Conceptualization of socio-cultural analysis in the system of socio-humanitarian sciences
Sociocultural analysis of cultural transmission
Semiotic approaches in sociocultural analysis
The use of socio-cultural analysis: opportunities and limitations

Assessment methods and criteria
- semester assessment:
1. active work in seminars: 40/24 points
2. performance of modular control works: 20/12 points (2 works on 10 maximum or 6 minimum points for everyone)
- final assessment: written exam - 40 points maximum. The minimum score for passing the exam (overall positive grade) is 24 points.
- Conditions for admission to the final exam: For students who scored a total of fewer points in the module than the critical minimum - 36 points to obtain admission to the exam is required to retake the module tests.
