Learning outcomes
1. To know the results of modern sociological studies of key social problems. 2. To be able to work with social information, sociological research data. 3. To be able to identify, analyze and interpret current social problems of society's development. 4. To summarize scientific sources in English, justify one's own position, draw independent conclusions. 5. To be able to use modern information and communication technologies in professional communication; exchange of information; collection, analysis, processing and data interpretation and visual representation of the results of scientific activity. 6. Demonstrate the skills of reasoned presentation of one's own opinion, competent and tolerant discussion with opponents. 7. Demonstrate the skills of independent research work, acquisition of new knowledge.

Prerequisites and co-requisites
1. Know English at B1 level (intermediate level), basics of sociology, political science, history. 2. Be able to work with social data, read and critically analyze scientific publications on social sciences in Ukrainian and English. 3. Have the skills to search, select and analyze social information, in particular in English; discuss, reasonedly present and discuss ideas and conclusions on current problems of social development.
Course content
1. How to compare countries? Sociological projects and databases of comparative data. 2. Global and regional institutional changes and their challenges to modern societies. 3. Social inequalities, injustice and discrimination as challenges to social development. 4. Social and human capital in a changing world.

Assessment methods and criteria
semester evaluation: 1. Participation in discussions - the classes will offer several forms of individual and group work on various tasks based on the analysis of the materials read. (РН1.1, РН2.1, РН3.1, РН4.1) - min 6 / max 1O points 2. Control work - writing an abstract of the article in English (300 words) (within research topics) (PHI. 1, PH1.2, PH2.1) -min 12/ max 20 points 3. Presentation on the topic within the framework of the dissertation based on the analysis of at least five articles in English (published in peer-reviewed journals) (PH2.1, PH2.2, PH3.1, PH4.1) - min 12/ max 20 points. 4. Analysis (Review) of a colleague's presentation (PH3.1) - min 6/ max 1O points. final evaluation: written exam - 40 points. Minimum score for successful completion (receiving an overall positive assessment) of the exam - 24 points.
