Learning outcomes
PLO2 Work effectively with information: select necessary information from various sources, in particular from professional literature and electronic bases, critically analyze, interpret, organize, classify and systematize it. PLO5 Cooperate with colleagues, representatives of other cultures and religions, supporters of different political views, etc. PLO14 Use Ukrainian and English in oral and written form in various genres, stylistic varieties and registers of communication (formal, informal, neutral) for solving communicative tasks in social, educational, professional, scientific spheres of life. PLO18 Have the skills to manage complex projects when solving professional problems in the field of a chosen philological specialization and be responsible for the decisions made in unpredictable situations. Form of study
Prerequisites and co-requisites
Before the course of study students are expected to complete successfully the program’s previous literary disciplines; to demonstrate basic knowledge of literary terms and be competent in applying various methodologies of a literary analysis of text.
Course content
The discipline is aimed at introducing students to the major literary phenomena, reading the central literary texts, overviewing artistic movements and trends in Western of the beginning of the 21st century. The course involves mastering various approaches to the analysis of literary text and provides the future philologists with professionally oriented competence.

Planned learning activities and teaching methods
The educational activities include answering at the seminars, the writing of an essay and passing the final test. The work program of the discipline includes the implementation of lectures and seminars, as well as students' independent work.
Assessment methods and criteria
The final assessment mark for the course is formed by the sum of the marks of the current and final control. The forms of current control encompass the answers on the seminars (max 35/ min 21 points), preparing an essay (max 15/ min 9 points). When is sum, the forms of the final control make up max 60/ min 36 points. The form of the final control is the exam with max 40/min 21 points for the mark. For the access to the exam the student needs to accumulate at least 36 points. To receive a positive mark for the course, the mark for the exam must be at least 24 points.
