Learning outcomes
PLO 13. Analyze and interpret works of Ukrainian and foreign fiction and oral folk art, determine their specificity and place in the literary process; PLO 15. Carry out linguistic, literary and special philological analysis of texts of various styles and genres; PLO 16. To know and understand the basic concepts, theories and concepts of folkloristics, linguistics and literary studies, to be able to apply them in professional activities; PLO 24. Identify the main mythologemes in author's and folklore works and carry out their analysis.

Prerequisites and co-requisites
Before starting the study of this discipline, students should know the socio-historical conditions of the development of culture and literature of the countries whose epics will be studied. Be able to work with various sources of educational and scientific information, process them, analyze the researched material, make generalizations and conclusions. Possess elementary skills of scientific research; search and processing of educational and scientific information.
Course content
Purpose of discipline - to form students' knowledge of the main aspects and directions of development of the world heroic epic; to familiarize with the methods of comparative analysis, problems of genealogy and typology in the monuments of the world epic; to find out the national features of the epos samples of different countries. Annotation. The discipline gives an idea of the main aspects and directions of development of the world heroic epic as a process, cultural and historical eras and styles; the formation of a heroic epic in direct connection with historical events and the formation of mythological ethnic systems; for textual analysis, the most typical texts of a certain genre-thematic group and the corresponding cultural-historical era are selected.

Planned learning activities and teaching methods
The course includes 2 content parts. The educational discipline consists of two substantive parts. Forms of education: lectures, seminars, independent work. Throughout the semester, after lectures on relevant topics, seminar classes are held, which are evaluated according to the types of work (oral response, addition, participation in discussion, blitz survey, control work, presentation of independent research, exam).
Assessment methods and criteria
Knowledge control is carried out according to the ECTS system, which provides for a two-level assessment of the learned material, assessment of theoretical training - learning outcomes (knowledge) - 40% of the total assessment and assessment of practical training - learning outcomes (skills, communication) - 60% of the overall assessment. Evaluation of the semester work: oral answer, additions, participation in the discussion, current control work: 25/45b. Preparation and defense of the presentation: 11/15b. The overall grade for the semester consists of points received for classroom work (oral answers, additions, participation in discussion, blitz survey, current test papers, defense of the presentation) and for independent work (preparation of the presentation). The final grade for the discipline (minimum 60, maximum 100 points) consists of the sum of the number of points for the semester work (minimum 36, maximum 60 points) and the written exam (minimum 24, maximum 40 points).
