Learning outcomes
LO01. Collect, process and analyze information in the field of earth sciences.
LO06. Determine the main characteristics, processes, history and composition of the Earth as a planetary system and its geospheres, including the pedosphere.
LO08. Justify the choice and use the field
and laboratory methods for the analysis of natural and anthropogenic systems and objects.
LO10. To analyze the composition and structure of the pedosphere on different spatial and temporal scales.
LO12. To know and apply theories, paradigms, concepts and principles in Earth sciences, in particular in the field of soil science.

Prerequisites and co-requisites
1) know the basics of soil science and soil geography, general geomorphology, geology, climatology, biogeography, as well as possess theoretical knowledge of the physical geography of Ukraine, have an idea of the geographical features and specifics of individual natural zones; 2) be able to establish a connection, conduct an analysis and correlation between the factors of soil formation and the soils that are formed according to them, read and analyze soil maps; 3) to have basic skills of field soil research, description of soil profiles, system analysis.
Course content
The content of the discipline covers a wide range of issues from the general patterns of distribution of soils on the territory of Europe and Ukraine, taxonomic units and approaches to soil classification, factors of soil formation in individual natural zones and soils within their boundaries to the current state, use and protection of soils in Ukraine.

Assessment methods and criteria
Practical work, modular control work, exam.The maximum number of points on the exam is 40 points, the minimum number of points that are added to the semester ones is 26 points. Mandatory for the exam is the completion of all practical work provided by the work program and the writing of modular test papers. The recommended minimum for admission to the exam is 34 points. Students who scored a total of less points than the critical minimum are not allowed to take the exam.
