            Learning outcomes
        
        
            PLO 1. Communicate freely on professional issues with experts and non-experts in Ukrainian, Spanish and English, in oral and in written form, use these languages to ensure effective cross-cultural communication.
PLO 2. Process information effectively: collect relevant information from a variety of sources, including professional literature and electronic databases, critically analyse and interpret it, organize, classify and systematize it.
PLO 5. Collaborate with colleagues, representatives of other cultures and religions, proponents of different political views, etc.
PLO 22. Use the knowledge of history and culture of Ukraine and Spanish- and English-speaking countries for ensuring successful communication and adequate translation.

            The student must have successfully completed the following disciplines: "English Language and Translation" and have the skills of:
● selecting, analysing and interpreting country studies facts;
● communication on country studies topics.
        
    
            Course content
        
        
            The course consists of two parts: the first part introduces students to the history, culture, politics, geography, as well as prominent figures of Great Britain, the second - with the realia of the United States and the peculiarities of  American English. The study of the discipline, firstly, allows to deepen, generalize and systematize the knowledge of students about the role and importance of English in the world and countries where it has the status of the state language, and secondly, prepares students for working as teachers of English. The purposes of the discipline are:
- to learn English acquiring the background knowledge about the members of British / American society;
- to learn culture loaded linguistic units;
- to form students' English-language communicative competence as a set of knowledge, skills and abilities that provide effective intercultural communication.

            Assessment methods and criteria
        
        
            During the semester, the assessment is carried out in accordance with the types of work and the form of control described in clause 7.1. The grade is based on the results of the student's work throughout the semester and does not include additional assessment measures. Students who have scored a minimum positive score of 60 points receive a "pass" grade. Students who do not score the minimum positive score of 60 points receive a "fail" grade. Students who have scored less than 60 points in total during the semester must pass the test by completing the material on the topics for which they have a debt in the form of writing independent works, essays or, if necessary, write a test.
