Programme Learning Outcomes:
PLO 5. Make use of major professional concepts and appropriate terminology. PLO 13. Know modern philological and pedagogical foundations of teaching Ukrainian language and literature, language norms, the socio-cultural development of the Ukrainian language, the use of language units in a certain context, language discourse of fiction and modernity, leading trends in the development of the literary process in Ukraine. PLO 15. Have communicative competence in Ukrainian (linguistic, socio-cultural, pragmatic components in accordance with the CEFR); be able to enhance own competence both in national and international contexts. Prerequisites and performance requirements
Successful performance in the course builds on essential knowledge of theoretical foundations of modern Ukrainian; the ability to analyze language phenomena, comment on stylistic norms of modern Ukrainian, and produce texts of various functional styles; elementary skills of complex linguistic analysis of a text.
Course content
Course description
The course aims to equip students with essential knowledge of Ukrainian as a polyfunctional system and major theoretical underpinnings of stylistics; enable mastery of stylistic norms of the language and develop skills of stylistic analysis of a text. The course is composed of one module which focuses on the criteria to provide a functional analysis of the language, and functional styles of literary Ukrainian, in particular, their extra- and intralingual features. Attention is also paid to the particularities of stylistic norms observed in various types of texts. The course ends with an examination.

Classroom activities and teaching techniques
The major activities that engage students and provide evidence to assess their performance are answers at practical sessions, additions, text analysis, independent writing of a text, and a test paper. For the performance in these activities, a student can score max. 60 and min. 36 points. A detailed description of activities and formative assessment is presented in the course curriculum presented on the official website of the Educational and Scientific Institute of Philology.
Assessment methods and criteria
Assessment
A student’s final grade is based on a 100-point grading system. It is made up of the scores for the coursework during a term (max. 60, min. 36 points) and the scores earned during the exam (max. 40, min. 24 points). The formative assessment considers answers at practical sessions (15 points), text analysis (16 points), independently written text (16 points), a test paper (13 points). The summative assessment is a written exam.
