Prerequisites and co-requisites
Prerequisites and performance requirements Successful performance in this course builds on prior knowledge and language skills of Ukrainian spelling and punctuation, as well as the skills of using them in writing; elementary knowledge of pedagogy, teaching methods, and techniques.
Course content
Course Description: The course aims to build students’ orthographic competence; speech culture, ability, and readiness to teach orthography to secondary school students. The course is composed of three modules. Module 1 explores the issues of orthography and spelling. Module 2 focuses on the development of speech culture, students’ lexicon, and thesaurus. Module 3 examines the methods of teaching orthography. Summative assessment is a pass/fail test. ,

Planned learning activities and teaching methods
Classroom activities and teaching techniques The course combines such forms of instruction as lectures, practical sessions, independent work, and project work. The major activities the students are engaged in and further assessed are answers at practical sessions, a team/individual project, module (mid-term) test papers, and an end-of-course test paper. For completing the listed activities, a student can earn a maximum of 100 and a minimum of 60 points. A detailed description of the criteria to assess the coursework is shown in the course curriculum displayed on the website of Educational and Scientific Institute of Philology.
Assessment methods and criteria
Assessment A student’s final grade is based on a 100-point grading system. The total score is made up of the scores earned for the performance during the term (max. 100, min. 60 points). Formative assessment involves answers at practical sessions (30 points), module tests (20 points), a project (24 points), a creative assignment (12 points) and an end-of-course test (14 points). A ‘pass/fail’ assessment is based on the outcomes of the coursework during the term and does not involve any additional assessment events. To succeed in the pass/fail assessment, students are required to gain a passing grade of 60; students fail if the score is below 60.
