PLO 5. Make use of major professional concepts and appropriate terminology. PLO 13. Know modern philological and pedagogical foundations of teaching Ukrainian language and literature, language norms, the socio-cultural development of the Ukrainian language, the use of language units in a certain context, language discourse of fiction and modernity, leading trends in the development of the literary process in Ukraine. Prerequisites and co-requisites
Prerequisites Successful performance in the course builds on essential knowledge of the secondary school curriculum in Ukrainian language. Students are also expected to be able to understand and analyze basic concepts of linguistics; distinguish authentic and credible information; plan and evaluate their own performance; use interactive and multimedia tools; possess elementary skills of processing information from internet resources, critical evaluation of relevant information, use of a variety of informational sources.
Course content
Course description The course aims to equip students with knowledge of the basic theoretical features of the lexico-phraseological system of modern Ukrainian and enable an effective application of this knowledge in practice. The course consists of one module which focuses on the study of lexical units and the semantics of lexis. The module also explores the lexis of Ukrainian from the etymological perspective and from the perspective of stylistic expressiveness, and stylistic differentiation of modern Ukrainian lexis; it also looks at the lexis of limited use, and phraseology as a branch of linguistics. The course ends with an examination.

Planned learning activities and teaching methods
The major activities that engage students and provide evidence to assess their performance are answers at practical sessions, additions, a progress test, and an individual creative task. For the performance in these activities, a student can score max. 60 and min. 36 points. A detailed description of activities and formative assessment is presented in the course curriculum presented on the official website of the Educational and Scientific Institute of Philology.
Assessment methods and criteria
Assessment A student’s final grade is based on a 100-point grading system. It is made up of the scores for the coursework during a term (max. 60, min. 36 points) and the scores earned during the exam (max. 40, min. 24 points). The formative assessment considers answers at practical sessions (32 points), additions (8 points), a progress test (10 points), and an individual creative task (10 points). The summative assessment is a written test.
