Prerequisites and co-requisites
To successfully master the discipline, students must speak Ukrainian, be well versed in the structure of the Ukrainian language; have knowledge of theoretical and practical foundations of the discipline; comprehend general linguistic concepts, genres of oral and written communication, basic skills of analysis of language units, knowledge of basic linguistic terminology. Course content
The course comprises two parts. Part one involves getting acquainted with the basic theoretical concepts of general linguistics, the study of language in connection with other phenomena of human existence, and covers material related to the acquisition of skills in working with vocabulary, mastering the knowledge of word-formation. Part two is the acquisition of skills in the analysis of words and terminological elements borrowed from classical languages, mastering professional terminology, understanding language as a system-structural formation, studying its level organization.

Forms of work: Lecture, practical class, independent work, test. Methods: lecture, seminar, independent work, creative project, report.
Assessment methods and criteria
Assessment is carried out according to the ECTS system, which provides a two-level evaluation of mastered material, including an assessment of theoretical training, which is 50% of the total score, and an assessment of practical training, which is 50% of the total score. During the semester, evaluation is carried out according to the work and forms of control described in the program. The score is based on the results of the student's work throughout the semester and does not provide additional assessment activities. Students demonstrate presentations no later than in the last week of lectures. Students who score a minimum positive score of 60 get a "pass". The students who don't score the minimum positive number of points get "fail". The students who score fewer than 60 points during the semester, to pass the test, must take a written test and/or prepare presentations and projects.
