Prerequisites and co-requisites
Successful performance in this course builds on the following requirements: students are supposed to be B2+/C1 users of the English language; be aware of English as a language system and as a means of communication; understand the psychological and pedagogical underpinning of English language teaching; be familiar with theories of language teaching and learning, methodology concepts and apply this knowledge effectively in class; know the requirements to teacher professional competencies; provide principled justification for the use of teaching approaches in class; apply literature research methodology for professional purposes.
Course content
This course aims to foster learners’ personal and professional development, developing professional Foreign Language Competence to be able to use foreign language for professional purposes: to plan, conduct and guide learners’ cognitive activity in the classroom and autonomously. Course content contains methodological and linguistic phenomena and terms, strategies to use English in professional communicative situations, linguistic and communicative means to organise the educational process of acquiring languages and literatures effectively at a high profession-oriented school.

Planned learning activities and teaching methods
The course is delivered in English through a mixture of practical sessions, independent learning, research, and project work. Major activities performed by the students include classroom assignments, essays, individual/group projects, and module tests.
Assessment methods and criteria
With a 100-point assessment system used, a final grade for the course is a sum of the points earned for the formative assessment (max – 60; min - 36) and summative assessment (max – 40; min – 24). Formative assessment is targeted at classroom performance, module test as well as projects and essays completed as independent learning tasks. Summative assessment is an exam that integrates 3 writing assignments (rhetorical analysis of the text, translation, and a language focus task) and an oral interview (discussion of a theoretical topic). Each exam assignment weighs 10 points. A detailed description of assessment scoring is given in the course description made public on the official site of the Educational and Scientific Institute of Philology. The exam is designed to cover the intended learning outcomes (LO) of the course such as LO 1.1-1.5, 2.1-2.4, and 4.1.
