Program Learning Outcomes PLO 2. Attaining this course requires successful completion of a relevant linguistic cycle of disciplines acquired within the Bachelor programme. Students should have a fundamental knowledge of the historical and cultural context of the development of Ukrainian society and science in the 19th and 20th centuries; they should comprehend the basics of linguistic terminology, the principles of periodization of the historical development of the Ukrainian language and national linguistics; and they should have basic abilities and skills of language analysis in its social, functional, and system-structural dimensions.

The course aims to acquaint students with the achievements of Ukrainian Linguistics during the 19th-20th centuries, when it developed under distinctive political, ideological, and socio-cultural conditions; to form a holistic view of the development of Ukrainian Linguistics following global trends, different schools and research paradigms; and to personify Ukrainian Linguistics with the leading figures of scientists, whose contribution shaped it as a multidimensional and self-sufficient scientific discipline. Abstract. The course will assist a student in becoming a competent teacher in a senior specialized school. This includes the study of the patterns and stages of the development of Ukrainian Linguistics in the 19th and 20th centuries in the context of modern Ukrainian and World Humanities; determining the role of prominent Ukrainian linguists in the study of the Ukrainian language at the phonetic, morphological, and syntactic levels of its system-structural organisation.

The course is delivered through lectures, practical sessions and independent work. The teaching methods: problem solving lecture, academic discussion, academic conversation, project work, research work.

The course total score is comprised of the scores attained for classroom discussions – maximum 40 and minimum – 24 points; for participation in the discussion – maximum 16 and minimum – 8 points; for closed-ended module test – max 12 and min– 8 points; for creative assignment – max 12 and min – 8 points; for summarising assessment – max 20 and min 12 points. With a 100-point assessment system used, a final grade for the course is a sum of the points earned for the formative and summative assessment (max – 100; min – 60). The course ends in a pass/fail test. A successfully passed pass/fail test entitles the results of the students over the course and does not include additional assessment. The total grade for a term (min – 60 and max – 100 points) is a sum of the points earned for the formative assessment (min – 48 and max– 80 points) and summative assessment (min – 12 and max– 20 points). Summative assessment includes such learning outcomes (LO): LO 1.1-1.5; LO 2.3, 2.5; LO 4.1-4.5.
