Prerequisites and co-requisites
1. Prior to taking this course, students should have general information about the historical and cultural context of antiquity, a basic knowledge of the history of the ancient world, ancient Greek mythology and literature, and the basics of grammatical terminology. 2. To be able to identify and reveal interlingual and intercultural relationships; analyze the phenomena of linguistic and cultural interference; interpret ancient and new European culture. 3. Possess basic skills of morphological and syntactic analysis of foreign language units and skills of lexical-etymological, historical and cultural analysis and commenting on sentences and texts.
Course content
The course is designed to familiarize students with the basics of grammar and vocabulary of the ancient Greek language for reading works and inscriptions of ancient Greece and Byzantium. Information on the phonetics, morphology and syntax of the ancient Greek language is considered, humanitarian terminology of Greek origin and Greekisms in New European languages are studied. The role and significance of Greek in the European cultural continuum and the Christian world are explored.
