Prerequisites and co-requisites
The course is based on the successful completion of literary courses studied in previous semesters. Students should be familiar with the life and career of writers' specified period. Students are expected to be able to work with texts, systematize conclusions of Ukrainian literature researchers, operate with basic literary concepts, and analyze plots, motifs, and images in the writers' works.
Course content
The course is aimed at shaping students' understanding of the "modernism" movement in Ukrainian literature, the distinctive features of stylistic trends, various schools, and groups during the specified period through the analysis of scientific, encyclopedic, methodical, journalistic, and artistic literature. As a part of the course "History of Ukrainian Literature," it encourages the acquisition of scientific knowledge about early modernist practices with numerous stylistic trends and diverse models of creativity by their representatives; it promotes understanding the literary-artistic and cultural-scientific life in Ukraine, contributing to the departure from populist-utilitarian views on literature, enhancing its independent role, and recognizing its exceptional significance.
